Praying for Every Lost Person
Prayer is the foundation of God's Plan for Sharing. Before any gospel conversation takes place, before any event is planned, the church is called to intercede for those who do not yet know Christ. The Praying component challenges every congregation to make intentional, sustained prayer for the lost a central part of its evangelism strategy.
Why Prayer Comes First
Spiritual breakthrough begins on our knees. When a church commits to praying for every lost person in its community, hearts are prepared — both the hearts of those who will share the gospel and the hearts of those who will hear it. Prayer aligns the church with God's heart and opens doors that human effort alone cannot.
Practical Steps for Your Church
- Identify the lost by name. Encourage members to list specific friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family members who need Christ, and commit to praying for them daily.
- Incorporate prayer into every gathering. From Sunday worship to small groups, make intercession for the lost a regular, visible priority.
- Launch a prayer-walking initiative. Mobilize teams to walk through neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces, praying on-site for God to open doors for the gospel.
- Use the Pastor/Church Preparation Guide. The GPS preparation materials include specific prayer strategies and guides to help your church build a sustainable prayer culture around evangelism.
Part of a Larger Vision
Praying is one of four biblical components that work together in GPS. It fuels Equipping, empowers Sowing, and prepares the way for Harvesting. When a church prays with focus and consistency, every other part of the process gains strength and direction.
